Colonial Beach (CBVA) is a waterfront town in northwestern Westmoreland County on Northern Neck peninsula, 35 nautical miles from Chesapeake Bay and less than 2 hrs. from DC, midway between Washington and Richmond. River town and beach town, bounded by Potomac River and Monroe Bay, home to the second-largest sandy beach in Virginia. Striking sunrises and sunsets. Fun fact: step into the water and you have left Virginia and entered Maryland!
Known as the Playground of the Potomac. Golf cart, bicycle, and trolley community. Bird sanctuary, 10 marinas, municipal fishing pier, beachfront promenade, public boat launch, riverboat gaming, outdoor recreation, watersports, arts, community events, shops and variety of food and beverage, including gourmet, fresh seafood, tiki bar, pirates cove, ethnic, ice cream parlor and craft brewery. Lodging options including cottages, vacation homes, bed and breakfasts, motels and camping.
Birthplace of President James Monroe, whose great-great grandfather settled the town in 1650 and near George Washington Birthplace National Monument. Summer home of Alexander Graham Bell and other 18th Century Victorians still stand.
The Tourism Center, located on the south end of the boardwalk promenade, is open Fridays from 1-4, Saturdays 10-4, Sundays/Holidays 11-2 pm. Guides provide brochures and information about the Town's history, events and area businesses.
