Come explore the Glencoe Mansion, home of Brigadier General Gabriel C. Wharton and his wife Nannie Radford Wharton. The 1875 Wharton home was constructed of thousands of handmade bricks and was a fitting statement of the stature of the Wharton family in Southwest Virginia. General Wharton served in the Civil War and advocated for the growth and development of Southwest Virginia.
The Glencoe Mansion, Museum & Gallery offers guests three museums in one:
- Historic House Museum: focusing on the history of the Glencoe Mansion and of the Wharton family.
- History Exhibits: Self-Guided exhibits highlighting key individuals and events that have shaped Radford and the region, inlcluding Native Americans, Mary Draper Ingles, John Blair Radford, Radford Asenal and Governor John N. Dalton.
- Art Gallery: featuring the works of talented local artists.
Additionally, there is a one-room Schoolhouse and the Mary Draper Ingles Cultural Heritage Park. The Radford Visitor's Center is also inside the Glencoe Mansion.
Guided tours are available at any time. Audio Tours are available. For groups over 10 people, please schedule ahead.
We host School Field Trips with a focus on 2nd and 4th Grade Virginia SOLs.
