Visitors will experience life in 18th century Virginia, learn about the water that defined the landscape, visit a Three Tun Tavern, and find themselves in the middle of the Battle of Great Bridge which led Virginia on the path to independence.
The Battle of Great Bridge was the first major Revolutionary War armed conflict in Virginia. The Patriot victory proved that they could stand up to the best professional soldiers in the world. In winning the battle on December 9, 1775, the Patriots denied the British the rich agricultural resources of southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina, described as being sufficient to supply an entire army.
Informative exhibits, an outdoor historic park with interpretive signs, nature trails, and picnic tables are located onsite.
