Trends come and go, but a really good biscuit stays in your memory forever. Owner Tim Laxton was struck by inspiration one night in 2014, he'd open a shop offering fresh biscuits using his grandmother's recipe! The idea was quickly embraced by Richmond when his shop first opened in Lakeside. Offering classic buttermilk biscuits with house-made jams plus a bakery case of old-fashioned pastries and cookies, in addition to lunchtime specialties like chicken salad and pimiento cheese, Tim and his crew have been sending customers on their way with a buttery grin on their faces and a full belly.
What's the secret to a good biscuit? Strong hands and lots of butter. Their new, larger space in Richmond's Fan District has a warm, nostalgic feel that will encourage customers to sit and savor their purchases. And the Early Bird team has more room to experiment, too with their biscuits of the day offerings. You never know what flavors they might be combining. We've also been experimenting with some vegan recipes, so keep your eye on our bakery case!
