What way to get a better understanding of the great nation than to go back to the home of one of its founders? Named after Queen Charlotte, Charlotte County was formed in 1764 and is the home and burial site of Patrick Henry. There is also a Patrick Henry Memorial in the county as they show their pride in the history of the area. Events are held in town for every season of the year, there are four different museums and visitor centers, and over a dozen localities to visit with significance dating back to the Civil War and earlier. Old school houses and Battlefields can be seen and country side walks are an everyday luxury.
The Staunton River Battlefield State Park and Clarkton Bridge offer opportunities to see the wildlife in their natural environment. Fishing and water sports are celebrated and there are many locations to hunt whitetail deer and wild turkey. With many Inns and Bed & Breakfasts, Charlotte provides its visitors the opportunity to get away and experience the country side like the locals do, and they’ll tell you Charlotte is the place to be.
