In 1851 the settlement of New Castle, where Johns Creek flows into Craigs Creek, was established as the county seat. Today Virginia Scenic Byways Rt. 42, Rt. 615, and Rt. 311 intersect here and offer beautiful drives in every direction. From New Castle southwest to Blacksburg and the New River Valley is 55 minutes, to Paint Bank is 25 minutes and another 25 to the Greenbrier Resort. From New Castle to Interstate 81 and the Roanoke Valley is about 30 minutes. There are several routes that lead north to Covington and Virginia’s Western Highlands, but allow an hour. And how far to your Next Adventure? That’s up to you!
Come visit New Castle and Craig County any time, but be aware that GPS often is not accurate in rural areas. Please call ahead for directions and hours.
